Uber and DoorDash Tax Filing in Toronto
Toronto Tax & Accounting Solutions Inc. prepares and e-files tax returns for rideshare and delivery drivers in Toronto and the GTA, and remotely across Canada except Quebec. Meet us at our Scarborough office or do everything online. We explain what we need, confirm the fee before we start, and file your return electronically as a CRA-authorized electronic filer.
Who this is for
- Passenger rideshare drivers, for example on Uber or Lyft.
- Delivery drivers, for example on DoorDash, Uber Eats, SkipTheDishes or Instacart.
- Drivers who do both, or who drive part-time next to a job or another business.
- Drivers who have not filed in earlier years.
What we prepare
If you drive as a self-employed contractor, your driving income and related business expenses are generally reported on Form T2125 with your personal income tax return. We prepare the T2125 business income and expense statement, calculate the business-use share supported by your records, and prepare and file your return.
- We ask about personal-use percentages, missing slips and unusual deposits before filing.
- We tell you which records to keep during the year, and whether instalments or GST/HST filings are coming up.
For a detailed look at what drivers commonly claim, read our Uber and DoorDash tax deductions guide. It is general information; how an amount is treated depends on your own facts.
What it costs
Self-employed and Uber returns start from $149.99 per return, before HST. The final fee depends on the number of income sources, how organized your records are, and whether GST/HST returns are also needed. We confirm the fee before we start. For GST/HST registration or returns, contact us for a quote. We confirm the scope and fee before starting. Work outside the agreed scope is quoted in writing before it begins.
GST/HST for drivers: passenger rideshare is different from delivery
- Passenger ride-sharing and taxi drivers. CRA requires self-employed taxi operators and commercial ride-sharing drivers to register for a GST/HST account even if they are small suppliers. The $30,000 threshold does not apply to that activity. (Source: CRA – GST/HST information for taxi operators and commercial ride-sharing drivers)
- Delivery-only drivers. The ordinary small-supplier rules apply. (Source: CRA – Tax obligations for commercial ridesharing and delivery services)
- Both. If you do both passenger ride-sharing and delivery, confirm your position with the CRA or with us.
Our GST/HST registration guide for freelancers explains the small-supplier test, and our GST/HST filing services page covers registration and returns.
What to bring
- The annual tax or earnings summary from each app you drive for.
- Any T4A or other slips you received, and your bank or e-Transfer deposit records.
- Your mileage log showing business-trip dates, destinations, purposes and kilometres, plus total kilometres and beginning/end odometer readings. See our mileage logbook guide.
- Records of vehicle costs, phone, insurance and other business expenses. See our self-employed records checklist and the general tax documents checklist.
- Last year’s return and any CRA letters, if you have them.
Do not email banking credentials or passwords. For SINs, employee tax information, and full tax slips, contact us first for instructions on the safest way to send documents.
How it works
- Step 1: Contact us through the contact form or by phone. We confirm what type of return you need and the fee.
- Step 2: Send your documents, or bring them to our office.
- Step 3: We review and ask questions by email, phone or video.
- Step 4: You review and approve the prepared return, then sign Form T183 authorizing us to transmit it electronically.
- Step 5: We file electronically and send you copies.
If the CRA sends a notice about a return we prepared, we explain it at no charge. We can help organize documents and prepare responses to CRA letters once the scope and fee are confirmed in writing.
