Common questions
The personal tax filing deadline for most Canadians is April 30 each year. Self-employed individuals and their spouses have until June 15 to file, but any balance owing is still due by April 30. Corporate tax returns are due six months after your fiscal year-end. Late filing results in penalties and interest charges from the CRA.
Pricing depends on the complexity of your return. A straightforward personal return costs less than a self-employed, rental or corporate return. Contact us for a free quote based on your specific tax situation — we are upfront about pricing before any work begins.
You will need T4 slips for employment income, T5 slips for investment income, T3 slips for trust income, RRSP contribution receipts, medical expense receipts, charitable donation receipts, tuition receipts, rental income records, and your previous year Notice of Assessment. Self-employed individuals also need records of all business income and expenses.
When you e-file your return, the CRA typically processes it within two weeks. Paper-filed returns take eight weeks or longer. Direct deposit is the fastest way to receive your refund.
You must register for GST/HST once your total taxable revenues exceed $30,000 — either in a single calendar quarter or over the previous four consecutive calendar quarters. Below this threshold, registration is optional but can be beneficial, as it allows you to claim input tax credits on business purchases. Our GST/HST filing service handles registration and returns for freelancers.
Yes. We regularly prepare prior-year and late returns, and can help you bring multiple years of filings up to date with the CRA. Filing late returns as soon as possible limits further penalties and interest.
No. Your refund or balance owing is determined by your own tax situation and the Canada Revenue Agency — not by your preparer. What we commit to is accurate preparation, every credit and deduction you are entitled to, and a clear explanation of the result before we file.
